2020 and the uncertainty of the Clinical Assessment: To Be or not to Be

Hello fellow medics,

2020 has been a life changing year for all of us (personally I am ready for 2021). With the great learning experiences (that we can survive without the complexities of life); the scary bits (for those lives lost) and all the uncertainties with it (our future..), We have all had our different experiences with different questions.

One question that I keep hearing over and over again from Non UK Medical Graduates is : Will there be a Clinical Assessment later this year? How will this pandemic effect my application to Foundation Programme?

Plab 2 has been cancelled. So is the cancellation of Clinical Assessment next?

There is no defining answer. Things change day by day currently in the UK. If someone had asked me last month whether they thought shops would open in June, I would answer “you wish” and here we are with long queues outside IKEA.

So essentially we can not work it out right now, we can only hope that the exams continue, and if they are to be cancelled/postponed, the we get a timely warning.

The advice that I have given others is: prepare as if the exam is going on until you are told otherwise.

I understand that for non UK graduates that there are so many others exams that are affected - IELTS, OETs, PLAB 1, PLAB 2…which makes this year extra challenging having to work out when and who sits these exams. Thinking about doing it in the “correct order” minimises travel and minimises loss of time and money.

Stay in contact with friends and family members who are doing the exam, as more brains will reduce the anxiety of wandering by yourself.

Do not spend endless hours scrolling through cryptic messages on websites, it is good to do your own research, but when you start to feel over whelmed, stop and talk to someone.

I pray that these difficult times become easier for everyone and that this uncertainty soon has some direction, so that you can continue the next journey of your career.

Stay focused, knowledgable and enthusiastic. No time is wasted if you are increasing your knowledge.

Any questions based on the revision advice for Clinical Assessment, please feel free to email, DM or facebook message me.
